The MIA survey assesses all children between the ages of 6 and 15. The MIA pilot took place in the state of Veracruz in 2014. In 2015, the assessment was carried out in three states: Puebla, Quintana Roo and Yucatán and in 2016, three states: Campeche, Tabasco and Veracruz. In total, MIA has gathered information from 12,499 homes in south east Mexico, assessing 8,268 children and young people. MIA is currently the only independent source of information related to reading and numeracy capacities in children in south east Mexico, and the only assessment that takes place outside of school.
