ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The specific eligibility criteria will be tailored for each research fellowship position and type of fellowship offered. However, the following general criteria will be considered an asset for all applicants:

Academic Background

Graduate Fellowships: Enrollment in a master's or doctoral program in Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related fields. A demonstrated interest in educational research and assessment is essential.

Postdoctoral Fellowships: A recently completed PhD (within the last 2-3 years) in relevant fields such as Education, Social Sciences, international development, Public Policy, or economics.

Early-Career Fellowships: 1-5 years of post-graduate research experience, with a strong academic record and a focus on educational assessment, policy, or related areas.

Senior Fellowships: Established researchers with significant experience and a track record of publications and contributions to the field of educational research.

Research Experience

  • Proven experience in conducting educational research, particularly in foundational learning assessments, will be highly valued.

  • Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, including data collection and analysis.
  • Experience in working with diverse populations, including children with disabilities, children in emergencies, and those from marginalized communities, is an advantage.

Geographic Focus

Prioritize applicants from the global south or those with experience working in these contexts. Understanding the unique educational challenges and opportunities in these regions is crucial.

Alignment with PAL's Priorities

  • Research interests and proposals should align with PAL Network's mission to improve children’s foundational learning through evidence-based assessments and actions.
  • Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to inclusive education, with a focus on addressing disparities and supporting vulnerable groups.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization software such as R, Stata, Python, Tablu, NVIVO, or similar tools is desirable.

  • Skills in designing, developing, and implementing surveys or learning assessments, particularly in low-resource settings.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for disseminating research findings and engaging with stakeholders.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with PAL Network staff, other researchers, and external partners.

Additional Assets

  • Knowledge of educational policies and practices in the global south.

  • Experience in capacity-building initiatives or mentoring junior researchers.

  • Multilingual abilities, particularly in languages spoken in the regions where PAL Network operates.
