Distinguished Professor of Education, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico
Dr. Claudia Uribe (our current Board Chairperson) is a Distinguished Professor of Education at Tecnolológico de Monterrey in Mexico, where she is developing a research program on the impacts of technology and AI on learning, development and wellbeing of children and youth. She has a long trajectory as education specialist and analyst with ample experience in international education and development. Her life's work and research have focused on improving education quality and equity particularly in underserved communities. Before joining Tecnológico de Monterrey, she was UNESCO's Regional Director for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and UNESCO Representative to Chile (2018-2024). In this role, she led LAC regional initiatives to promote and oversee countries´ progress towards meeting SDG4 goals, including among others, the regional Student Asessment Program (LLECE), and the Regional SDG4 Steering Committee composed of Ministers of Education from all the region. Earlier in her career, she was education specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) (2003-2015), where she was responsible for developing and overseeing a large portfolio of loans and technical cooperation projects in education across the LAC continent. Before joining IDB, she served as Director General of School Organization at the National Ministry of Education in Colombia and was also Co-director of the Center for the Support of Women and Families in Colombia. Her experience also includes extensive consulting with organizations such as the World Bank, the Harvard Center for International Development, the Global Partnership for Education, and UNICEF, among others, as well as several governments and institutions worldwide, most recently Mexico’s National Institute for Educational Assessment (INEE for its Spanish acronym). Claudia holds a bachelor's degree in Anthropology from Tulane University and a Master's and Doctoral Degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
